This is generally a fee for service clinic. I am an out-of-network provider for most patients. Many, if not most private therapists and psychiatrists bill this way. It means that the you are expected to pay out-of-pocket the full fee at the time of the appointment, usually by check or credit card. This does not necessarily mean insurance will not cover at least a portion of the cost, but that you will need to submit the superbill for insurance separately. Please contact me directly to inquire about actual rates.
Visits are usually billable based on length of the appointment, either 20 minute or 50+ minute appointments, or 90 minute evaluations. The length is determine by need, and patient preference. Therapy appointments are typically 52 minutes and psychopharm appointments can be either 20 minutes or 50+ minutes
When you come to clinic (in person or virtually), you receive a Superbill (i.e., a receipt for services), with the information that insurance companies need to reimburse you. You can contact your insurer to determine where to send this information. For most insurance companies this can be doing either online or by mail. Typically, reimbursement takes one or more months.
I DO RECOMMEND you contact your insurance prior to the first appointment to determine how much they cover, in order to avoid any misunderstandings about this later on.
I DO take one type of insurance for MHN (Mental Health Network) and Cardinal Care (Stanford student insurance). If you are covered by MHN, please let us know. We can bill the insurance directly, but you will still be responsible for a copay, which is usually between $10 and $50. For Stanford sdutents it is currenlty $25 per session. This copay is due at time of the session.
If your coverage expires, changes, or you are not covered, please be aware that you will be still be responsible for the fees.
